Pavilion designs go on show
The 2009 China (Shanghai) Architectural Design and Urban Planning Exhibition will open in downtown Shanghai tomorrow, displaying dozens of Expo 2010 pavilion designs.
The designs include international participants' pavilions, corporate pavilions and domestic pavilions.
The exhibition will be held at the ShanghaiMart in Changning District until June 12. Covering 6,000 square meters, it features architectural design corporations from around 30 countries and regions.
The China Pavilion, the Republic of Korea Pavilion and the Swiss Pavilion are among those exhibited.
The China Pavilion introduces dougong bracket building - brackets fixed layer upon layer between the tops of columns and crossbeams. This unique structure of interlocking wooden brackets is one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture.
The ROK Pavilion is composed of the basic ROK characters, while the Swiss Pavilion will be enveloped by a semi-transparent facade made of aluminum netting fitted with intelligent solar cells.
